Welcome to the College of Pharmacy.

AIU Health Science Centers, at AIUWA offers a curriculum patterned after the US pharmacy program and is designed to meet the licensing requirements in the USA. College of Pharmacy offers a (5+) year program leading to Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree to students who have successfully completed high school. The program consists of (16) months of Pre-pharmacy studies followed by (20) months of Pharmaceutical sciences and (24) months of Clinical pharmacy sciences. High placement directly into the Pharmaceutical Sciences (Basic Sciences) may be available to qualified candidates who have completed their first degree with relevant subjects. AIUWA College of Pharmacy is listed in the IMED FAIMER International Pharmacy Education directory published by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (US) ECFMG. AIUWA pharmacy students are eligible to give NAPLEX examinations for certification in the US. The clinical pharmacy training is conducted at various hospitals, clinics, and regional health centers in Gambia. Specialized clinical training is available at affiliated international institutions. All faculty members are highly qualified and experienced professionals. Our curriculum provides learning opportunities in a wide variety of pharmacy practice settings, including hospitals, clinics, and community pharmacies operated by the Government of The Gambia. We are committed to helping our students succeed in their pharmacy education. The aim of the pharmacy program is to:

  • To assume responsibilities as professional and competent pharmacists and to provide pharmaceutical care services, including drug distribution, medication management, and patient education.
  • To make independent decisions in pharmaceutical situations and to protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of optimal drug therapy.
  • To function in the hospital, community pharmacy, and conduct research studies in the areas of pharmaceutical practice.
  • To demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relationships.
  • To demonstrate leadership qualities and decision-making abilities in various situations.
  • To demonstrate skills in teaching individuals and groups in community health settings.
  • To practice ethical values in their personal and professional life.
  • To recognize the need for continued learning for their personal and professional development.
